Thinking about going back to school but not sure what you want to go for? Do you want to go to school for the least amount of time and make the most amount of money you can? Are you female? Do you have children and need a flexible schedule? Do you want a choice of full or part time and still get good health benefits for you and your family?

If you answered any of the above in the affirmative, then the school of Dental Hygiene may be just what you are looking for.

Because the preservation of our natural teeth is so important to most people, and Dentists get many new patients from the Dental Hygeniests list, this occupation continues to be in demand during a difficult economy and may even increase because many people may opt to keep their teeth in a cleaner condition to avoid unnecessary high dental bills with the slumped economy.

What is more, you have more flexibility with schedule than almost any profession after you’ve completed your training. You can work on contract for several different Dentists each week, or full-time in one Dentists office if you want to.

And the pay? Well, depending on the metro area and state you live in, a Dental Hygeniest will make anywhere from $18 to $55 per hour.

LIST OF DENTAL HYGIENE PROGRAMS OFFERED IN INDIANA

Northwest Dental Hygiene Program
University Dental Hygiene Program
Purdue Dental Hygiene Program
Southern Indiana Dental Hygiene Program

HOW LONG IS THE PROGRAM?
If you attend a University, you will attend for a BA degree which will be at least 4 years of college. However, most programs only require an AA degree which is a two year program.

If you are looking for a career that allows you to work in a clean environment and be looked at as a professional, the Dental Hygienist job may be for you.
You need to plan ahead for this career, though, and have the facts as to whether you can be certain this is for you.

If after looking over this info, you want to make sure you can get a job easily with the difficult economy and you are content making less money and only want to commit to training for a few weeks, please read the last paragraph below.

HOW MUCH IS SCHOOL?

You will need to go to college and can usually choose between a 2 year Associate Degree program or a 4 year BA degree.

ENTRY LEVEL DENTAL HYGIENE PROGRAMS

Concorde Carrer College – Memphis
Chattanooga State Tech – Chattanooga
East Tennessee State University – Johnson City
Roane State Community College – Oak Ridge
Remington College – Nashville
Tennessee State University – Nashville
University of Tennessee Health Science Center – Memphis

WHAT WILL I GET PAID?

The hourly wage for a college grad is anywhere from $18-$55 per hour. And you will have a very flexible work schedule as well where you may choose to work contract, full, or part time.

WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO KNOW?

The prerequisites for the program are stringent and not all applying will easily get accepted. Check with the Dept. at the college you are considering to get a list of what classes you will need in order to be considered. Your test scores in some of these classes will be critical to getting you accepted.

If you live in a small town like Crawfordsville, Germantown, or Jericho for instance, you may need to go to Memphis to be enrolled in the program but should be able to take some of the prerequisites on-line.

Also, living in or near Bowling or Clarksville, may require you to travel to Nashville for most of your classes.

IF THIS IS ALL TOO MUCH TO DO BUT NEED A JOB AND LESS SCHOOL:

The economy is tough and you don’t want to waste time going to school and then not get a job. To save time and money consider a Tennessee CNA training program. There are many more home health aide training classes that take only a few weeks.
